Learning about the design process of architecture

By looking at IDEO the masters of innovation and product development we as architects can learn a bit or two about the design process of architecture. They do what most architects do, they conduct brainstorming sessions, and they observe the system as it is in motion, they make sketches, they build models and they vote on great ideas.

I hope you will enjoy this three part documentary and reflect back upon your own situation as an architect.

Part 2

Part 3

There are two books written by the brother Tom Kelly and both of them are really good reading. In his first book he explains how IDEO came to be and how it works its magic. http://www.theartofinnovation.com/default.htm

In the second book called “Ten Faces of Innovation”, Tom sums up and explains most of the organization of knowledge and method used within IDEO by referring to the roles people can take on. http://www.tenfacesofinnovation.com/thebook/index.htm

Thanks to Dr. Lauchlan A. K. Mackinnon of http://www.think-differently.org/ for finding and posting the videos so I could find them.
